SWARM

Ripe as the day is long
Its flesh softens to touch
Malleable like wet clay
Or a body of water
The core exposed
But the bees can't help but feast
A colony of stingers
Puncture soft flesh
Ripping grainy fruit
Away from the body
Swarm after swarm they come
Festered around the wound
Multiplying
Draining the pear of its juice
Inspired by Joseph Decker’s painting Ripening Pears
